This concert evening is devoted entirely to the Baroque era. We will hear two of the concertos that J.S. Bach composed in 1731 for Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg-Schwedt. In addition, we offer Orchestra Suite No. 3, the third movement of which, Air, is one of the most famous and performed pieces of classical music. Bach's contemporary colleague, the Italian Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco, contributes with Concerto grosso from 1722 - less well known than J.S. Bach, but just as catchy and swinging! Baroque expert Peter Whelan, artistic director of the Irish Baroque Orchestra and founder of Ensemble Marsyas, conducts the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra for the first time this evening.
As a conductor, Peter has a special passion for exploring and championing neglected music from the Baroque era. That's another good reason to look forward to an evening with emotions in focus!

Do you usually listen to an artist's album before going to a concert? You should do the same for classical concerts! Having heard the works before makes the listening experience of a live orchestra better.
