A concert like this can evoke adventurous and popular emotions. Gustav Mahler's music is romantic and emotional, and on this particular evening the orchestra will play "Symphony No. 1", based on the melody of Fader Jakob! The concert opens with Oceanides by Jean Sibelius, which describes the movement of waves and the glitter of the sun in the sea. If you also like piano instrumentals, Piano Concerto No. 1 by Tveitt is something you can look forward to. The concert's soloist is the Norwegian star pianist Håvard Gimse!
Symphonies are like life, they have to be about everything - Mahler
The composer Gustav Mahler believed that a symphony, just like life, should contain everything. He lived up to this motto. The range of expression is overwhelming and otherworldly, with beautiful sections contrasted with banalities and magnificent orchestral outbursts. The mourning march and the rustic scherzo of the third movement are many a music lover's favorite, as is the magnificent finale.
Tabita has been Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra's first guest conductor since 2021. She is a young, fresh and creative conductor at the beginning of her blossoming career, the last few years of which include a number of successful and critically acclaimed performances across Europe. Former director of KSO, Geir Rebbestad, has expressed that the orchestra and Tabita have a fantastic energy between them. So we can look forward to this concert!
