Mozart's poignant and hauntingly beautiful Death Mass is one of the most mythical compositions in music history.
Mozart worked on the work from his sickbed, but died after sketching the Lacrimosa movement. The Requiem was probably completed by his pupil Franz Süßmayr.
As a contrast to tonight's main work, we have commissioned a Pentecostal Mass by KSO's former director Håkon Berge.
While the Death Mass is a journey away from this world, the Pentecostal Mass is a celebration of the beginning of life - in memory of the biblical story of the baby Jesus who was carried into the temple forty days after his birth (Luke 2:30).
Kilden's own professional choir, Kilden Vokalensemble, contributes to both works.
Conductor: Marit Tøndel Bodsberg
Performers: Kilden Vocal Ensemble
Håkon Berge: Kyndelsmesse (2024, world premiere)
W.A. Mozart: Requiem (1791)
Soloists:
Eir Inderhaug - soprano
Christina Jønsi - mezzo
EmanuelTomljenovic - tenor
Trond Gudevold - bass
Prior to the concert, the audience is invited to a pre-concert talk in Foajé Nord at 18:40. Director of Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Pål Svendsberget, will have a chat with composer Håkon Berge. The conversation will focus on the commissioned work Kyndelsmessewhich has its world premiere this evening.
