Throughout a very exciting life as a songwriter and artist, the Spellemann Award-winning Norwegian artist from Namsos in Trøndelag, who lives in Grim in Kristiansand in southern Norway, has both written his own songs and interpreted the songs of others through various music projects. In the concert series "SONGBOK" he will do both. Throughout his work as a performer and music communicator, Askil has been passionate about telling the stories behind the music he has written or interpreted. He has done this with fellow musicians in his own solo project, in the band Lind, Nilsen, Fuentes and Holm, through his music-themed column on NRK Sørlandet for the past five years and for students and colleagues at the Songwriting and Artist Studies program at UiA Rytmisk at the University of Agder since 2015.
In the second chapter of "SONGBOK", Askil Holm celebrates the legacy of one of his great musical role models: Bruce Springsteen. One of rock's most iconic voices who is hailed as one of the greatest artists in music history. With a career spanning decades and countless hits, Springsteen has left a legacy that will continue to inspire and delight music lovers around the world.
Bruce Springsteen was born on September 23, 1949, in Long Branch, New Jersey, and his love for music was awakened at an early age. He founded the "E Street Band" and together they have created timeless songs such as "Born to Run", "Dancing in the Dark", "The River" and "Radio Nowhere". Bruce Springsteen has also become known for his legendary concerts that often last for several hours, where he creates a unique experience for the audience. He has also been an important voice in American social debate, known for writing lyrics that depict the struggles and hopes of the working class.
Even after many decades, Springsteen remains an active and vital artist, and his music and memory live on strongly. Fans around the world continue to celebrate his contribution to rock music, and new generations continue to discover the charm of his songs. Bruce Springsteen will forever be a legend in rock music, and his music will live on as a source of comfort and inspiration for all who listen.
In "SONGBOK", Askil Holm and the band will look at the songs and artists that inspired Bruce Springsteen, but also who he has inspired over several generations to write songs that go down in the history books.
As an audience member, you can look forward to an energetic concert in a range of genres from pop, rock and blues to Americana and country.
