Sheherazade - and the word that lasted 1001 nights

Sheherazade - and the word that lasted a thousand and one nights is an enchanting family show that offers exciting adventures, storytelling, shadow theater, oriental music and magical mysteries.

The production is about the young girl Sheherazade who tries to save a society in crisis - using only words!

The king is angry and bitter after being betrayed by a left-handed person, so he imprisons all left-handed people in the basement of the castle before sending them out into the desert.

Sheherazade is one of the last left-handers to be captured by the king. Fearing that she too will be sent out into the desert, she comes up with a cunning plan!

Every night she tells the king half a story. The king is very excited to hear the end of the story, but Sheherazade refuses to tell the end until the next day.

This is how Sheherazade avoids being sent into the desert. But what happens when she runs out of stories?

The performance is based on the frame story of One Thousand and One Nights, folk tales mainly from India, Persia and the Middle East.

But the work contains adventures that extend geographically wider than that, all the way from northern China to northern Africa.

For example, did you know that the fairy tale of "Aladdin with the lamp" actually originated in China?

The story of Sheherazade in One Thousand and One Nights is not a child-friendly story, but it has become so in Kilden's version!

The production is now on tour in Agder, before being performed in Kilden in December. We look forward to sharing this fantastic performance with the audience!
