– Mozart’s Requiem with lyrics written by struggling young people.
"Requiem for Life"is a collaborative project between KSO, the Mental Health Clinic at SSHF, and high schools in Agder. The project is based on Mozart’s Requiem, and young people with personal experiences of mental health challenges have written new texts through writing workshops led by author Birger Emanuelsen. The texts, which are based on the participants’ own life experiences, have been adapted into a new libretto, and the work will be performed by 120 young people, professional soloists, and KSO at Kilden March 2026.
"Requiem for Life" brings together classical music and the voices of today’s youth, while also promoting greater understanding and openness regarding mental health in society. Through collaborations between young people, professional artists, and mental health experts, a unique artistic expression is created, demonstrating how sharing experiences can foster connection, community, and hope.
"Mass for Life" is part of a broader collaboration between Kilden SSHF on music and health.
The first production was in 2017, and here’s what one of the young people said at the time:
“When I sing these songs written by other young people, I really take them to heart. It has taught me that you should respect everyone before you judge them. Anyone could be struggling.” HåkonHuldt, singer in the choir
