Bjøro Håland ( born 1943) is from Håland in Audnedal.

He made his stage debut when he was just five years old. He emigrated to the United States at the age of 17. There, he worked as a floor layer, steelworker, and carpenter. In Brooklyn, he met his beloved Liv, and they moved back to Norway in 1966, where they married and had two children.

The legendary Bjøro Håland is one of Norway’s most beloved artists, known in particular for his contributions to the country music genre. He has distinguished himself as a vocalist, songwriter, and producer, and has enjoyed tremendous success throughout his long career. Since the early 1970s, Håland has been one of Norway’s best-selling artists. He has sold over 4 million copies in Norway and abroad and has received a total of 46 silver, gold, diamond, and platinum records.

TV shows such as *Allsang på Grensen*, *Charlie Rackstead på Byscenen*, and *Trygdekontoret* with Thomas Seltzer, as well as serving as a specialist judge on *Stjernekamp* for two seasons.

In addition, he has received numerous awards and honors, both in Norway and abroad. He has been named Scandinavia’s best country artist on several occasions and has achieved enormous popularity both within and beyond Norway’s borders.

In 1997, Bjøro Håland was inducted into the Scandinavian American Hall of Fame in North Dakota, where he received the “Merit of Distinction Award for the Performing Arts.” He has also been named an honorary citizen of the city of Minot, North Dakota. He has also received the Lindesnes and Audnedal Culture Award—the list goes on and on.

Bjøro received his highest honor in 2012 from King Harald himself. He was then appointed Knight First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit for his work in promoting cultural ties between Norway and the United States, particularly in the field of music.
