Researchers have been listening to contemporary music over the past few decades. See what they found out.

Contemporary music has been around for a hundred years, and critics have accused it of being cold, impersonal, authoritarian, artificial, and emotionless. It has even been banned by authoritarian regimes, such as those under Hitler and Stalin. In the book *Transformations of Musical Modernism*, a group of international researchers presents a new interpretation of contemporary music. Among the researchers is Erling E. Guldbrandsen, who is a professor at the Department of Musicology at the University of Oslo.
