Since the popular documentary series “The Dementia Choir” was a huge success on NRK this winter, Kilden, Kulturrullatoren, UiA, and other organizations have received numerous inquiries about whether it would be possible to launch a similar initiative in the Kristiansand area. Today, the first meeting was held to launch a dementia choir here in Kristiansand.

The series follows the launch of a choir for people with dementia who love to sing, with a team of researchers documenting the impact of the choir’s singing. The series has moved and inspired the Norwegian public, offering a unique insight into what it’s like to both live with dementia and live with someone who has dementia.
On Friday, Kilden took Kilden to bring together key stakeholders who can help establish a dementia choir.
The project group consists of dedicated individuals with diverse backgrounds and extensive collective expertise in the fields of health and the arts. Furthermore, we are passionate about harnessing the tremendous potential inherent in the connection between art and health, and we know that it can promote joy, quality of life, and living conditions.
The first step was taken today, and now we will work together to figure out how to organize this initiative. There is a lot that needs to be sorted out, and it is not yet clear when, where, and how we will begin.
The project’s initiators are a group of dedicated individuals with diverse professional backgrounds in the field, but it is thanks to startup funding from Sparebanken Sør that the project now appears to be moving forward.
“For us, it’s wonderful to be part of something that so clearly has a positive impact on public health. This is a project that can break down taboos and help foster openness about a disease that affects many people,” says Eva Kvelland, Director of Marketing and Communications at Sparebanken Sør.
