Young Composers on Stage

News Dialogue
Young talents on stage with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra

Young Classical / Young Composition

This week, 13 third-grade students from Rosseland School will take the stage alongside the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. They are performing music from their own creative compositions, selected through the Skapia program. The children have selected five emotions that they have described in sound: happy, stressed, in love, sad, and angry. Composer Vilde Aakre Lie has compiled the children’s auditory descriptions into a cohesive musical piece that the children will perform at the concert alongside the orchestra. Instruments include a ukulele, hand cymbals, a flower pot, four bottles of water, and a book that slams on the floor.

The children will also perform Joseph Haydn’s “Toy Symphony” alongside the orchestra; you can listen to a preview below.

At the concert, the winners of "Young Classical" will also have the opportunity to shine as soloists alongside the KSO. This year's soloists are Panagiotis Grivas (clarinet) and Theodor Bugge Jonssen (marimba).
