Outdoor concert in Ny-Hellesund

White Southern Norwegian houses by the sea.

Everyone in small boats, people on the islets and in cabins: welcome to the concert in Ny-Hellesund on Friday, July 9, at 8 p.m.

Together with the full-rigged ship Sørlandet, we invite you to an outdoor concert when the ship anchors near Vilhelm Krag’s home, Havbukta.

Here, four singers from Kilden , along with two musicians, will treat us to an atmospheric Krag concert featuring both well-known songs and some we may not have heard before.

The Poet from Southern Norway

Krag was often referred to as the "Poet of Southern Norway" and wrote poetry, short stories, novels, plays, and non-fiction. Countless composers have set his poems to music. Among the best known are Edvard Grieg, Johan Halvorsen, and Ivar Bøksle.

    The Christiansand Song

    Lyrics: Vilhelm Krag
    Music: Eyvind Alnæs

I want to sing a song, and it’s a lovely one,

and if you can play the accordion, that's fine too.

For the song is about Christiansand, hurray for Christiansand,

We’ll all shout that as loud as we can.

    Chorus:

    And we're located on Vesterveien,

because there is no such place

anywhere in the world like Vesterveien

like in the evening when the sun goes down,

anywhere in the world like Vesterveien

like in the evening when the sun goes down.

From the pebbles of Baneheia to the sands of Tressement,

from the wharves on Vesterveien to the river’s sparkling waters,

That is where our streets are; yes, that is where our father and mother lived,

and my dearest lives on a street just like that.

    Ref.

And when the music starts, the town comes alive,

then we'll march with our heads held high,

Then we'll take a little stroll along the piers

The wind blows toward Østerbåden from behind the wall at Lagmandsholmen.

    Ref.

And up to Ravnedalen on the Path of Love,

We've certainly been wandering around there quite a bit

and just think about Lundsia—it's a nice place to walk

in the moonlight, walking with the little girls

    Ref.

Yes, may God bless the city and all that belongs to it,

and the blue sea out there with its islets and skerries,

It's great to be from here—hurray for Chr. Sand,

There, we’ll all shout as loud as we can.

    Ref.
