– A form of theater facing extinction
Anton Chekhov’s *The Cherry Orchard* is currently being restaged at Kilden . Dramaturg Endre Sannes Hadland believes the production represents a form of theater that is on the verge of extinction.
“We live in an age where we’re used to everything moving so fast, even in the theater. In director Laurent Chétouine’s production of *The Cherry Orchard*, we go all the way back to the play’s origins, to the original text,” says Sannes Hadland in a video podcast introducing the classic play to the audience.
– Here, there has been an insistence, almost in a demonstrative way, on performing the entire play without cuts, and I’m actually a bit unsure if there are other productions like this today.
The video podcast is a conversation between Sannes Hadland and Kilden’s “Russia expert” David Holme. The two discuss playwright Anton Chekhov, the historical period in which the play was written, director Laurent Chétoine, and the boycott of Russian art.
The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov will be performed on the following dates: July 18, 20, 21, 23, 24, and 25.
