Many families are struggling in the run-up to Christmas. The Unik Resource Center, which assists vulnerable families in Kristiansand, reports a steady increase in demand, particularly from families with children.
More than 2,500 children and young people live in poverty in Kristiansand, and the Christmas season can be a difficult time for many. Not all parents are able to buy gifts for their children, and every year, the Unik Resource Center sees a large number of families seeking help.
Starting today and through December 20, a solitary Christmas tree will stand in the lobby ofperforming arts centre Kilden performing arts centre. Anyone who is able to do so is welcome to stop by and place a gift under the tree.
The gifts are donated to the Unik Resource Center, which distributes them to children and young people living in disadvantaged families.
Our partnership with the Unik Resource Center has been ongoing for several years. The gifts that have been donated for the Christmas tree in the lobby have brought joy to hundreds of children and young people in our region.
Three years ago, we were visited by the theater group from the Unik Resource Center, who decorated Kilden’s Christmas tree with great enthusiasm and dedication. Nearly 200 Christmas ornaments were hung by eager little hands, much to the delight of all of us who work at Kilden. The same tree now stands in all its glory in the lobby and is ready to receive Christmas gifts.
If you are able to contribute, you can do so in the following way:
Specific wishes from children associated with Unik are hanging on the tree. Take a Christmas ornament from the tree and attach it to the gift you donate.
You can also buy a gift without taking an ornament from the tree. Remember to write on the package the age the gift is intended for and what it contains.
Keep in mind that the gift can be something a child wants and wishes for. It can certainly be an experience!
Drop off your Christmas gift under the Christmas tree in the foyer of Kilden performing arts centre December 20.
The gift must be new.
We hope you’ll join us in helping to make Christmas a little more joyful for families who need a little extra.
Wishing you a peaceful Christmas from all of us at Kilden performing arts centre
