This Fall's Literary Salons at Kilden

Theater and literature are often closely linked. In partnership with the Norwegian Writers’ Center Sørlandet, we are continuing our successful collaboration with the Literature Salons at Kilden. This fall, we will meet two authors who have both received rave reviews for their latest books. Welcome to an author talk, reading, and engaging conversations at Kilden!

At our first literary salon of the fall, we are delighted to welcome the Norwegian/Palestinian/Lebanese author Rana Issa. Issa recently received rave reviews for her first book in Norwegian,*Tung tids tale. Et familieportrett*.

Her honest, vivid, and rich family history from Lebanon allows us to experience the Middle East conflict as a lived reality, in a way that has rarely been done before in Norwegian non-fiction.

Her mother came from a Palestinian refugee family and grew up in a refugee camp in Beirut. Her father was Lebanese, and her parents met in the radical student movement. When she was little, her father would often take her “to work” for a change of pace—to the front lines of the Lebanese Civil War. She now lives in Oslo with her two children. *Tung tids tale* is a jubilant, furious, and vivid portrait of the extended family that surrounded Rana Issa as she was growing up.
