Klangen av klima
The Sound of Climate
More than 5,000 students from schools in Kristiansand, Lillesand, and Grimstad are attending a symphony concert at Kilden.
Many children and young people are deeply committed to environmental issues and climate change, and so is the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. Through "The Sound of Climate," this commitment to the environment and music comes together in a spectacular concert experience from March 1–3.
We would like to welcome children and young people in Kristiansand to a concert experience that is truly out of the ordinary. This concert has been made possible through a collaboration between Kilden Den kulturelle skolesekken Agder.
In konsertsalen , you konsertsalen by a full symphony orchestra conducted by Christian Schumann, which, together with David Chocron’s immersive video art, creates a truly unique and powerful experience. The video art visualizes the music performed by the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra and depicts our journey alongside Mother Earth, through good times and bad.
Comprehensive offering
According to Silje Hansen Flemmen, the program director for children and youth atperforming arts centre Kilden performing arts centre, the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra has long wanted to put on a major concert for children and youth.
“For our part, it’s important to have a comprehensive program for children and young people here at Kilden. We offer baby sing-alongs, Ungdomskilden, school concerts, and programs for those under 30—all designed to provide a comprehensive range of activities from the very youngest to young adults,” says Silje.
Award-winning performance
The visual aspect of the concert is made possible by a thin, transparent screen—known as a “bobinette”—set up between the audience and the symphony orchestra. The screen is used to project video art in sync with the music performed by the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. The project offers a truly unique experience that was first presented by the Oslo Philharmonic in 2020.
That same year, the production won a Young Audiences Music Award (YAMaward), an international prize that honors creativity and innovation in musical productions for young audiences. The production frames the climate crisis in a way that is informative, entertaining, and inspiring for the audience.
A home for everyone
Kilden a venue for everyone. And we want as many people as possible to enjoy the experience here in konsertsalen the region’s own symphony orchestra, which is why we’ve sent out an informational brochure in advance with details about Kilden, the concert, and—not least—recommendations on how to attend and prepare for symphony concerts,” says Silje.
“For Kilden important to welcome people of all genders, skin colors, religious beliefs, and ages. Kilden for everyone, and through projects like this, we hope that more young people will discover symphonic music,” Silje concludes.
