Klar for sin andre premiere i Kilden Teater

Director standing in the room

- It would probably have been possible to make a safer choice, but there's something about it that you can't quite get to grips with. It has its own logic, but that logic insists on constantly changing," says director Mari Vatne Kjeldstadli.

Rosmersholm will be performed inside a house on the Intimscenen stage, where both the audience and the actors will be in the same room. And it is in this tight space that the director often experiences a very special energy.

"3D atmosphere"

- When the sound, the visuals, the actors and the audience get so close, it can trigger an energy that I think is absolutely fantastic. A kind of "3D atmosphere". That would be incredibly fun to experience with this performance," she says.

Kjeldstadli has directed at Kilden once before. It was the large-scale production Jonas by Jens Bjørneboe, which was also director Valborg Frøysnes' first production at Kilden Teater.

- " Jonas was my first main stage production as a director, and I remember it being overwhelming in every way. Most of the people involved had never done theater on this scale before, and I remember that during the first day of rehearsals on stage we agreed that "if we can do this, we can do anything", she says.

Jonas success

Jonas was an audience success, received praise from critics and a Hedda Award nomination for Honningbarna for "best sound design".

Now she's back, this time with a production she describes as "a main stage production pushed into Intimsalen".

- By that I mean that we really haven't skimped on anything in this production. It's almost a little overwhelming what we've managed to achieve in such a limited space. And we've been able to borrow two musicians from the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra for the performance. I think that's really cool," says Kjeldstadli.

Strong artistic team

The director has a strong artistic team with Norunn Standal (scenographer/lighting design), Ingvild Langgård (composer/sound design) and Synne Reichelt Føreland (costume design).

The actors are Henrik Rafaelsen (Johannes), Ragnhild Meling Enoksen (Rebekka), Ulla Marie Broch (Kroll), Isabel Toming (Helseth), Lars Funderud Johannessen (Brendel) and Eirik Langås Jørgensen (Mortensgård).

In addition, musicians Lars Lunde and Pål Svendsberget will be joining us from KSO.

Rosmersholm by Henrik Ibsen will be performed in Intimsalen from April 30 to May 28. More than 50 percent of the tickets have already been sold.
