Ready for the 2023 European Conference
For the fourth year in a row, the Europe Conference will take place on May 5 atperforming arts centre Kilden performing arts centre. The consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will be the conference’s main topic.
With the Council of Europe’s backing, and a host of experts, speakers, and prominent guests from Norway and abroad in attendance, the stage is set for an exciting few days in May. Democracy Week will take place at various locations in Kristiansand from May 2–8, and the Europe Conference will be held atperforming arts centre Kilden performing arts centre Europe Day itself, May 5.
Pussy Riot
Among the many speakers scheduled to appear at the European Conference are former Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Bjørn Berge, and Pussy Riot artist and activist Lusine Djanyan
Mayor Jan Oddvar Skisland wants to make Kristiansand a hub for debate and development to strengthen democracy and human rights.
“Through the European Conference’s program and other events during Democracy Week, we hope to help put these important issues on the agenda and continue to build on our goal of being an internationally oriented municipality,” says Skisland.
The fourth time
The first Europe Conference was held in Kristiansand in 2020, and due to the pandemic, the event was held entirely online and streamed fromperforming arts centre Kilden performing arts centre. In 2021, the event was partially streamed, while in 2022, in-person attendance was finally permitted.
The European Conference is organized by the following partners: the City of Kristiansand, Kilden performing arts centre, Agder County Council, ARKIVET Center for Peace and Human Rights, the Council of Europe, Cultiva, Kunstilo, KS, the University of Agder, and the Vest Agder Museum.
