“Losen” – “The Pilot”: New musical to be Kilden’s biggest production

News

The big Kilden based on Henrik Ibsen's story about Terje Vigen will be performed in spring 2020. For two years, work has been going on behind the scenes and not least in the bedroom of composer Rolf Løvland. In another two years, the curtain will rise on Kilden's major production "Losen" - with the English title "The Pilot" - and music written for a symphony orchestra.

An all-star team is behind it:

Rolf Løvland has already come a long way in composing. Two of the melodies will already be performed in Kilden at the KSO concerts on Thursday, May 3 and Friday, May 4. Løvland emphasizes that he has taken on the composing assignment with great enthusiasm:

- When Kilden asked me to compose a new musical, it was a big dream come true. Even though I knew it would take several years of work, this opportunity was too good to turn down. Kilden is the perfect place for a new musical, with its own symphony orchestra, theater, opera and production - a complete production offering. The idea of writing a new musical has been with me for a long time, so when I was contacted by Kilden , many pieces fell into place. Through Secret Garden, my own music has gradually approached a classical, melodic language that is quite close to that of the musical. Precisely because this was the direct reason why I was asked, I felt confident in embarking on such a demanding and extensive project," says Rolf Løvland.

Rolf Løvland is a double winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, a double Spellemannspris winner, and has sold five million records and won 113 platinum trophies with his Secret Garden. Now the successful composer is ready to create a musical in his hometown of Kristiansand.

Petter Skavlan has previously written scripts for the Oscar-nominated "Kon-Tiki" and "The Twelfth Man". Now he has written the script for Kilden's largest stage production, a free story based on Ibsen's text.

Former Kilden Bentein Baardson is directing. Stefan Sköld, former director of KSO, had the idea for the musical, which he and Baardson have worked hard to get off the ground.

In its six years of existence, Kilden performing arts centre hasperforming arts centre staged a larger or more ambitious production. This musical is tailor-made for Kilden a multidisciplinary arts center.

- We have a theater, a symphony orchestra and a lot of technical expertise. And not least, there are still great expectations that we will give the audience musical theater of the highest quality. That's why we've started this project, and why we're proud to finally be able to lift the veil and tell you about it," says Kilden's director Hans Antonsen.

Birgit Amalie Nilssen, director of Kilden Theatre, has this to say about the story of the musical, which will build on what Ibsen has told:

Our story begins with these unanswered questions: Who was Terje Vigen, and who were the people around him? Who was he married to? Who did he fight against? Who did he rely on? Where did his strength come from? And what enabled him to forgive the greatest of all sins: the murder of an innocent child. On Thursday, May 3, and Friday, May 4, Espen Grjotheim, Helene Bøksle, conductor Anders Eljas, and the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra will present highlights from Kilden’s biggest project ever.[ult_buttons btn_title="READ MORE ABOUT THE CONCERT HERE" btn_link="url:https%3A%2F%2Fkilden2020.wpengine.com%2Fforestilling%2Fhelene-boksle-og-espen-grjotheim%2F|||" btn_title_color="#ffffff" btn_bg_color="#7a3434" btn_bg_color_hover="#5e5e5e" btn_icon_pos="ubtn-sep-icon-at-left"]
