Nathalie Stutzmann has been appointed as the new chief conductor of the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra

She succeeds Giordano Bellincampi and will begin in the fall of 2018.
Nathalie Stutzmann is an internationally acclaimed musician who combines her career as a singer (contralto) with her ever-growing international reputation as a conductor.
She is Principal Guest Conductor of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland in Dublin and Associate Artist with the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra.

During the 2017/18 season, she has been engaged as a guest conductor with, among others, the London Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the St. Louis Symphony, the Saito Kinen Ozawa, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Nathalie Stutzmann herself says that from her very first rehearsal with the KSO, she was impressed not only by the orchestra’s technical quality, but also by the musicians’ dedication and determined commitment to making music together.
“My feeling was that this is an orchestra I would very much like to work with frequently in the future,” says the incoming chief conductor, who also expresses a desire to work with the entire KSO organization to develop new ideas for promoting music in Kristiansand and throughout Southern Norway.
In March 2017, Stutzmann conducted the KSO at Kilden.
According to orchestra director Stefan Sköld, the chemistry between the conductor and the orchestra was magical, and the potential for developing this collaboration was tremendous. After the concert, there was a strong consensus to try to establish a regular collaboration between the KSO and Nathalie Stutzmann.
Nathalie Stutzmann will kick off the 2018/19 subscription season on August 30 with music by Wagner, Tchaikovsky, and Brahms atperforming arts centre Kilden performing arts centre.
The Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra is one of Norway’s professional orchestras, with approximately 70 musicians.
