Spyro Gyra from the director's playlist for Kilden.

The phenomenon Spyro Gyra is finally coming to Kristiansand, but did you know that our own CEO, Harald Furre, has followed the band for a number of years?

In 1974, the members of the jazz band Spyro Gyra got together in a pub in Buffalo. An impulsive act, in the aforementioned pub, by one of the band members meant that for almost fifty years the band has shared its name with a freshwater algae.

Fast-forward a decade or so and the young hopeful Furre is introduced to a cassette featuring Spyro Gyra, the band, not the freshwater algae. In the classroom at Kristiansand Cathedral School, lecturer Håkon Nilsen came in with a large "ghetto blaster" to play a tune he had recently become familiar with.

-It was "Cathing the Sun" by Spyro Gyra. A fantastic tune that became the whole class's favorite and that we've played at class parties ever since. It's one of my favorites," says Harald Furre.

-"It's clear that you have a few musical experiences that stand out in a lifetime, and hearing Spyro Gyra in the classroom was certainly one such experience," Harald continues.

From Harald Furre's playlists to the stage at Kilden, is there a connection here Harald?

- No, it's entirely coincidental that a band I have a relationship with is coming to Kilden, having said that, I highly recommend the band and the concert on October 25.
