Tabita Berglund is the new principal guest conductor

The Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra has today confirmed that Tabita Berglund will become the orchestra’s new principal guest conductor. The talented Norwegian conductor has signed a three-year contract beginning in August 2021.

Berglund will join an already strong artistic team, which currently consists of music director Nathalie Stutzmann and guest conductor Julian Rachlin. Through her participation in Talent Norway’s “Conductor Initiative” from 2018 to 2020, among other things, Berglund has quickly established herself as one of the most exciting and talented young conductors on European stages. This is the first time she has been appointed principal guest conductor of an orchestra, and she is looking forward to the role:

“The KSO is a young and ambitious orchestra with a unique desire to learn. I was won over the first time we worked together, and my goal for the next three seasons is to see just how good we can become together. It’s a challenge I’m really looking forward to,” says Tabita Berglund.

Geir Rebbestad, director of the KSO, expressed great satisfaction with the announcement of the orchestra’s new principal guest conductor:

“There was an amazing energy between Tabita and the orchestra when she visited us last year, and the idea of expanding our collaboration was born right then and there. We’re an orchestra that wants to work with unique talents, and Tabita definitely falls into that category,” he says.

Tabita Berglund’s role in Kristiansand marks a milestone in her flourishing career; in recent years, she has given a series of successful and critically acclaimed performances throughout Europe. She recently made her conducting debut with the Oslo Philharmonic, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. Other recently confirmed guest appearances include the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich, the Dresdner Philharmonie, the Hallé Orchestra, the Royal Scottish Orchestra, the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, and the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya.
