Vant prisen for beste plakatdesign i 2020

åtte plakater

The poster collaboration was initiated by the then newly appointed theater manager Valborg Frøysnes, and consists of eight unique artworks, one for each of Kilden Theatre's productions in 2020.

The jury believes that Kilden Teater with the project "dares to break out of familiar frameworks", and that the expressions on the various posters also give a strong serial character. Here is the jury's comment:

- Made the jury happy

"This poster series stands out in the category as an inspiring surplus project. Kilden Teater is a well-known institution in Southern Norway that with this work dares to break out of familiar frameworks. They have been inspired by previous poster art and actively use the entire poster space, where the title and illustrations are woven together in a harmony that reads as one. Each poster is perceived as a playful visual translation of the individual composition, and together they form a strong serial character. The jury was delighted with the work and we believe that the posters also create curiosity and add something new to the audience. The works come into their own in the physical space as they are silk-screened with special inks and are really perceived as expressive and colorful. A good solution that responds well to the brief to mark a clear distinction in relation to previous productions."

The artists

The posters for all of Kilden Theatre's productions in 2020 were created by artists Andreas Töpfer and Jan Freuchen.

Andreas Töpfer is an award-winning graphic designer living and working in Berlin. He works for KOOKBOOKS, which he founded in 2003 together with poet and editor Daniela Seel. In Norway, Töpfer is best known for his work for the literary magazine Vagant, where he is visual editor, designer and illustrator. Töpfer has also designed many of the publications for the Kristiansand-based art book publisher Lord Jim Publishing. Töpfer works at ATELIER:MILCHHOF in Berlin and among his most recent publications is Speculative Drawing (in collaboration with A. Avanessian) (Sternberg Press).

Jan Freuchen grew up in Kristiansand and studied at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts and Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. He works with sculptures, collages, publications and curatorial projects. His public art commissions in Kristiansand include the City Hall Quarter and the new bus station in Kristiansand. His most recent projects include Oslo samlede verk (together with Sigurd Tenningen and Jonas Høgli Major), osloBIENNALEN (2019), Skjermdump, Billedhoggerforeningen (2019) and Troløse bilder, Nasjonalgalleriet (2018). Together with Sigurd Tenningen, Freuchen is behind the exhibition and publication series Game of Life (2012-2020) at Kristiansand Kunsthall. In 2006, Freuchen founded the art book publisher Lord Jim Publishing, which he now runs from his studio on Odderøya.
