Kilden performances featuring Russian artists

– The violations of international law we are seeing in Ukraine are extremely serious. It is important that we all send a clear message about the injustices currently being committed in Europe, whether by nations, large international corporations, or a art center in Southern Norway, or individuals,” says CEO Harald Furre.

The resolution adopted at an extraordinary board meeting at Kilden performing arts centre reads: ““To clearly demonstrate our opposition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Kilden has decided Kilden cancel performances by Russian artists and ensembles until further notice.”

Together in solidarity

– It is important for us to emphasize that these cancellations are a principled stand against Putin’s senseless war of aggression in Ukraine. This statement is not directed at the people of Russia or the artists, but is intended to express our abhorrence of the acts of war directed against Ukraine. If we all stand together in solidarity with Ukraine, against war, it will be noticed—even in the Kremlin,” says Furre.

As early as Friday afternoon, Kilden held Kilden solidarity event for about 200 attendees in the lobby. In connection with the event, the building was illuminated with the colors of the Ukrainian flag, and both appeals and cultural performances were presented. The lights will be lit again on Wednesday and Thursday this week as part of a joint national initiative for the entire cultural sector.

Audience members who have tickets to the affected events may choose to receive a refund or donate the amount to humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Ticket holders will be contacted by Kilden’s box office.
