Kilden & Competence Center
Fargespill brought together 100 children and young people from 30 countries for a powerful musical performance on stage at Kilden.
Composers, musicians, choreographers, lighting and sound designers, set designers, and directors provided the professional framework for the performance. The young participants themselves set the parameters for the content; they chose which stories to tell and how best to convey them through dance and music. In this way, Fargespill became intimate, musical encounters with the lives of young people.
At Kilden , we believe that art and culture can contribute to quality of life, interpersonal understanding, value creation, and social development. Fargespill was a space where children and young people could experience a sense of accomplishment and build strong social relationships, regardless of their background or life circumstances.
The performances were developed and produced here and served as an example of how Kilden operates as a center of excellence for collaborative art and social practice.
Fargespill Kristiansand was a collaborative project involving Kristiansand Culture School, Kongsgård School Center, the University of Agder, and various elementary schools in Kristiansand. Cultiva contributed to the establishment of the project (2014–2017). The concept was originally adapted from the Fargespill Foundation in Bergen.

“To see the pride in the many participants, to see the joy shining in their eyes, to see their incredibly intense focus, the smiles that appear when everything goes right or when something goes a little wrong, to see the young participants forget all about shyness, self-consciousness, and the ‘don’t look at me’ mentality—it’s a wonderful sight.”
I’ve seen many of Kilden performances over the years. And I find myself wondering if this isn’t one of the most important things happening at Kilden. Here, relationships are built. Here, people learn to be together and work together. Here, barriers are broken down. Here, prejudices are dismantled. Here, art is created. »
