Praise for Kirsebærhaven
"Kirsebærhaven" managed to run for only two nights before COVID-19 restrictions put a stop to the production. Nevertheless, several of the country's leading theater critics managed to catch the classic.
Dramaturg at Kilden Teater, Endre Sannes Hadland, is proud of the production, but also understandably sad that it was only performed twice for the public.
- We are grateful and proud of the feedback we have received on the performance, and feel that the disappointment over the cancellation only becomes stronger when seen in light of the good feedback we have received," says Sannes Hadland.
Good reviews
Dag og Tid was one of the few media outlets to cover the play. Reviewer Bent Kvalvik writes: “One is quickly drawn to the lonely, softly chattering Gajev, charmingly portrayed by Håkon Moe, Ulla Marie Broch’s introverted and exotic Charlotta, and DagfinnTutturens’idealistic studentTrofimov. […] Giert Werring also makes an impression as the old footman Firs, particularly in the lively final scene.”
Reviewer Andreas Wiese at scenekunst.no also delivered a glowing review of the play, stating that“It’s skillfully done; this is a very ambitious undertaking by the theater, and it delivers.”
Corona restrictions
The Cherry Orchard by Russianplaywright Anton Chekhov is one of the great classics of theater history. In Kilden Teater it was directed by French Laurent Chétouane and Sanna Dembowsky on costume design.
The performance was originally scheduled to run from February 26 to March 26, but due to corona restrictions it was only performed on February 26 and 27. This means that several hundred audience members lost the opportunity to experience the classic. Kilden is looking into the possibility of resuming the performance.
Strong version
- The play developed into a strong version of Chekhov's masterpiece under the direction of the aforementioned Chétouane. His interpretation of this classic shows why he is considered among the foremost theater directors in Europe. Hopefully, we can give The Cherry Orchard a second life at a later date," says Sannes Hadland.
