Magnus Staveland

The Norwegian tenor Magnus Staveland was born in Stavanger and studied at the Oslo Academy of Music and the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
He has appeared at venues including the Norwegian Opera & Ballet, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, La Fenice in Venice, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Theater an der Wien, Opéra Garnier in Paris, Théâtre de La Monnaie in Brussels, Opera Vlaanderen in Antwerp, Perm State Opera, Ho Chi Minh Opera House, the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, and the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. 

His repertoire includes roles such as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Tamino in The Magic Flute, Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, Medoro in Orlando Paladino, Aret in Haydn’s Philemon and Bauchis, Evandre in Gluck’s Alceste, Ati in Gluck’s Ariesto, Giova in Gluck’s Bauci and Filemone, Max in Der Freischütz, Erik in The Flying Dutchman, and a number of other roles in works by Monteverdi, Händel,ndel, Cavalli, and Scarlatti.   

Staveland is a highly sought-after concert singer who performs regularly at concert halls and festivals across Europe and Asia. His repertoire includes oratorios, masses, and songs by Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Dvořák, Grieg, Britten, and Stravinsky.

He collaborates with a number of the world’s leading conductors, including Rinaldo Alessandrini, Fabio Biondi, Teodor Currentzis, Alessandro De Marchi, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs, Andrew Manze, Marc Minkowski, Juan Bautista Otero, Andrew Parrot, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and Marc Soustrot.

Starting with the 2021–22 season, he will be a permanent soloist with the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet.
