23 Amadeus-frilansere i ny konsertforestilling

When the major production *Amadeus* was canceled earlier in September, many of the freelance artists involved were at risk of being laid off. On October 14 and 15, the replacement production *Mozart – While We Wait for Amadeus* will take the stage.

“Eighteen months of a virtually non-existent job market have been a heavy burden for many artists. Cultural institutions in Norway are entirely dependent on freelance artists, and Kilden certainly one of them. Kilden a big heart for artists, which is why it was especially important for us to make this happen,” says Frøydis Lind, artistic director of Kilden .

Was running around

The moment the major production *Amadeus* was canceled in September, Kilden performing arts centre work on creating a replacement project that could be realized within the reduced budget constraints now in place due to the ongoing strike in the cultural sector. The result, which premieres on October 14 and 15, is a celebration of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s music and features no fewer than 23 of the artists who were originally scheduled to perform in Amadeus.

 – It’s not often that we have so many talented artists from different art forms participating in a single production. We want to create a concert performance in which all these art forms are represented, with Mozart and his music taking center stage. “As a ‘side effect’ of the concert, we hope the audience will look forward even more to Amadeus, which we’re working to stage in 2023,” says Lind.

The performance Mozart – While We Wait for Amadeuswill feature a short excerpt from Amadeus, musical selections from several of his operas, ensemble singing, dance, and readings from his somewhat unorthodox correspondence with his father.

– We feel valued and cared for

Singer Tuva Marie Jansen Sverkeli is one of the freelance artists whose fall plans were turned upside down when Amadeus was canceled two days before the premiere. She took a one-year leave of absence from her studies to be part of the production. Now she is very happy to be able to fill her days with something meaningful.

Kilden always said they want to avoid layoffs, and now that we get to put on an alternative concert, it makes us feel valued and taken care of,” says Sverkeli, continuing:

“It’s incredibly important for the entire ensemble that our sense of community didn’t just go up in smoke when Amadeus was canceled. We’re all looking forward to working on the Mozart concert and meeting the audience in October,” she says.

Amadeusby Peter Shaffer was supposed to be this fall’s major production at Kilden performing arts centre, but was canceled as a result of the ongoing strike in the cultural sector. The production was a collaboration between the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Kilden , and Kilden and involved 24 musicians, 10 actors, 8 dancers, and 4 singers. Twenty-three of the freelance artists involved are now participating inMozart – While We Wait for Amadeus, which will be staged atperforming arts centre  Kilden performing arts centre on Octoberperforming arts centre and 15.
