Det Norske Ibsenkompaniet presenterer Peer Gynt i Fjæreheia
Although Kilden will no longer be developing Fjæreheia in Grimstad, the eye-catching quarry is still set for a fantastic summer.
The critically acclaimed production Peer Gynt returns to Fjæreheia outside Grimstad on July 20-27. Everything is in place for an extraordinary experience in the summer darkness.
Nils Golberg Mulvik is back as a sparkling Peer, Birgitte Victoria Svendsen is Mother Åse and Ellen Dorrit Petersen once again takes on the role of the Button-maker. New names this year are Per Christian Ellefsen as The Stranger, Reidar Sørensen as Dovregubben and artist and singer Maria Arredondo as Solveig. In addition, the stage is filled with a host of dancers and local extras.
This is an intensely visual Peer Gynt that begins after dark to take advantage of the mood the summer darkness provides on a stage like Fjæreheia. Under Kim Sørensen's direction, the production manages to be full of humor, sting and irony, while treating the text with the respect it deserves.
With the quarry as a powerful backdrop, this is theater on a grand scale, with dance numbers, song, sound and light. This makes the subdued scenes all the more poignant, as they contrast with the grand tableaux. From the bride's rope going up the mountain wall, to mother Åse's death, which is sore and close even in a large space like Fjæreheia.
The performance is based on Geir Moen's critically acclaimed graphic novel and the visual expression of the performance, which has been created in collaboration with Moen, will give the audience a completely new experience of meeting Peer.
Looking forward to it
Artistic director of The Norwegian Ibsen Company, Kåre Conradi, is looking forward to this summer's performances in the old quarry in Fjæreheia.
- "There 's a lot we want to do with the Peer Gynt performance in Fjæreheia this year that we didn't get to do last year," says Conradi. "That's why we're running an extended version of the show this summer, which may also make it interesting for those who saw last year's show to come again this year," he concludes.
Magic and recklessness in the quarry. An experience you shouldn't miss.
