Honors his father with a watch presentation
“It’s going to be a big day for me. I’ve been working on this piece for four years now, with delays due to COVID and a lot of other things. It’ll be great to finally be able to perform it for the first time,” says Louissine Azizan Idsøe, who will be joined by Danish cellist Jakob Kullberg as soloist on Wednesday.
First time since maternity leave
“And the fact that this is my first concert with the orchestra since I went on maternity leave last November makes it all the more special,” she says.
Azizian, who is of Danish-Armenian descent, is a permanent member of the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra and is in high demand for her tone, intensity, and virtuosity as both a soloist and a chamber musician. At just 17 years old, she won first prize at the prestigious Jeunesses Musicales International competition in Bucharest.
Tribute
The work *Out of this Woods*was commissioned by Azizian with support from KODA Culture and the Augustinus Foundation, and was written in honor of Louissine’s father, Serguei Azizian. Composer Nicklas Schmidt has previously served as arranger and orchestrator for the Oscar-nominated score of the film The Theory of Everything, and has composed the music for the film about Astrid Lindgren (Unge Astrid) and the Danish TV series Friheden.
Two clock performances
In addition to the work by Niclas Schmidt, Wednesday’s concert will feature another world premiere, Øystein Sevåg’s Concerto for Tenor Saxophone and Orchestra, with Bendik Hofseth as the saxophone soloist, as well as Anne-Marie Ørbeck’s Symphony in D Major.
The concert will be conducted by one of Norway's most renowned orchestra conductors, Ingar Bergby.
