Friday, March 25: Siv Ringdal gives a lecture: Emigrants in High Heels

6:00–6:45 p.m.

The history of women’s emigration has often been overshadowed by the experiences of male emigrants. In this lecture, Siv Ringdal will shine a spotlight on the young women who emigrated from Agder to New York in the years following World War II. What drove them? And what was the transition like from the postwar scarcity and pietism back home to the abundance and alternative ways of life in the modern metropolis?

The script for the performance *Heimanifrå – på høge hæle i Junaiten* is loosely based on Siv Ringdal’s book *På høye hæler i Amerika*. Ringdal is an ethnologist, researcher, and author with a Ph.D. in cultural history, and serves as chief curator at the Norwegian Folk Museum.

Wednesday, March 30: Post-show discussion with the actors

10:30–11:00 p.m.

The Heimanifrå actors—Ragnhild Meling Enoksen, Isabel Toming, Ann Ingrid Fuglestveit, and Marius Lien—invite the audience to join them for a discussion and Q&A following the performance.

Wednesday, March 30: Lecture by Hans Martin Sveindal: "America Fever from Inner Agder"

6:00–6:45 p.m.

Hans Martin Sveindal is the web editor at Dyreparken; he has worked as a journalist for many years and has published several books. In his book *Amerikafeber*, he has tracked down every emigrant from the village of Grindheim after the war—and tells the story of how they fared in the United States—through both good times and bad. This is the topic of the lecture. A link to purchase tickets will be available soon.
