Herborg Ready for the 2024 New Year's Concert
The first major concert event of 2024 is the now-traditional New Year’s Concert featuring the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. On January 4 and 5, Herborg Kråkevik will take the stage at Kilden guide the audience through this festive concert.
The beloved artist will serve as both host and soloist at the gala concerts kicking off 2024, a role she approaches with both seriousness and humor.
“New Year’s represents a new beginning, but at the same time the end of something. For me, there’s a certain melancholy to this, something that will likely be reflected in the New Year’s Concert in January. There will be celebration and laughter, but not just that,” she explains.

Practice during Christmas
She highlights several songs she will be performing and is particularly looking forward to singing a newly arranged version of Stephen Sondheim’s “The Ladies Who Lunch.”
“I was asked if there was a song I’d always wanted to sing but never had the chance to, and this was the one I chose. Now a brand-new orchestral arrangement has been written for it, and I’ve noticed that it’s probably a little harder than I expected. So I’ll be practicing over Christmas,” she laughs.
Good reputation
The last time Herborg served as host and soloist at the New Year’s concert at Kilden was in 2019. She vividly remembers meeting conductor Julian Rachlin and an orchestra she describes as exceptionally pleasant to work with.
– The KSO has a very good reputation, and I clearly remember how inspiring it was to work with both the musicians and the conductor last time. There was an openness and curiosity there that made for a great result and a wonderful experience for us on the podium as well as for the audience. I think we’ll experience that again in January. In any case, I’m really looking forward to it,” concludes Herborg Kråkevik.
