As part of its new initiative,Kilden in Agder,” Kilden performing arts centre isperforming arts centre launching a record-breaking program outside of Kristiansand in 2021.

Among other things, there will be several theater premieres throughout Agder. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Agder County Council and LOS.

Kilden Last year,Kilden Harald Furre announced his ambition to increase the theater’s presence throughout the region and meet audiences where they live. He is pleased with the program being launched.

Looking forward to it

“I hope and believe this will be very well received throughout the region. We’re really looking forward to getting out there and meeting the public with what I think is a varied and comprehensive program,” says Furre.

The director of Kilden is very pleased that Agder County Council is supporting the regional initiative by providing Kilden with an additional grant Kilden 1.25 million kroner, and that LOS is stepping in as a sponsor for the initiative.

Two premieres

For the very first time, Kilden is premiering two of this year’s major productions outside of Kristiansand, with Ludvig Holberg’s classic Erasmus Montanus is performed at Buen Kulturhus in Mandal on May 5. The tour continues to Lyngdal, Flekkefjord, Grimstad, and Arendal, before the Kristiansand audience can experience it starting May 18.

Kilden is also presenting the family show Sheherazade – and the Word That Lasted 1,001 Nights out in the region in November, before settling at Kilden to Christmas. This time, Birkenes has been chosen as the premiere venue, before the show moves on to Evje and Hornnes, Byremo, Vigeland, and Bygland.

The Music Salon

For the first time, Kilden is also set to host events outside of Kristiansand. So far, it has been confirmed that the hit series *Musikksalongen*—featuring Sigbjørn Nedland— will travel to Flekkefjord and Vennesla in April and will also be held at two additional locations in Agder after the summer. Musikksalongen is a music history lecture series featuring NRK expert Sigbjørn Nedland, which has been sold out every time it has been held at Kilden.

The Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra (KSO) and Kilden (KVE) will once again participate in the Risør Chamber Music Festival this June, where the KSO will hold its traditional concert on Stangholmen, while the KVE will perform concerts both at the Salvation Army’s premises and at Risør Church. The latter will also launch Christmas concerts throughout the region in addition to Kristiansand.

Two concepts

In addition, KSO is rolling out two programs across the region that will showcase the music of two of the greatest composers of all time. *Beethoven Has Lost His Sheet Music* is a performance for children, scheduled to be staged in Farsund, Sirdal, Kvinesdal, Evje, and Hornnes, and likely in two additional municipalities in August. The very next month, KSO will tour with Mozart for the Whole Family to Søgne, and confirmation is pending from four other Agder municipalities.

Charlies Basuner has become a local institution since it first launched at the traditional pub Charlies Bar in Kristiansand in the 2000s. The concept has gradually expanded throughout the city, and this year the event will also be held in Mandal and Grimstad.

Increase interest

– Kilden’s goal is to provide residents throughout Agder with wonderful art and cultural experiences right where they live. Our ambition is also to increase interest in our art forms so that more people from all over Agder will visit the Kilden building Kilden Kristiansand. The pandemic, which we will soon have left behind, has shown that art means a lot to many people and that we need to come together to experience something meaningful as a community. I both hope and believe that our new offerings will be well received by audiences throughout the county,” concludes Furre.
