More than a hundred performers will take the stage at Folkelig Kraft fra Agder on Thursday, August 17. An old acquaintance atperforming arts centre Kilden performing arts centre is in charge of ensuring that everything runs smoothly.

“It’s absolutely fantastic that we have so many folk musicians in Agder who perform at a national and international level, and it’s rare to bring so many of them together for a concert on a single evening,” says Ingrid Forthun, who is directing the concert on August 17.

Forthun served as artistic director at Agder Teater during the transition from Kristiansand Teater to Kilden performing arts centre stepped down from that role with the production *The Spider Woman’s Kiss* in 2014. Since then, she has directed numerous productions at theaters across Norway. Now she is back at Kilden, taking on a slightly different role.

Large audience

“When there are so many people involved, it becomes very important to keep everything running smoothly and create seamless transitions between the segments. These are often the kinds of things the audience doesn’t think about when they work, but definitely notices when they don’t,” says Forthun.

Folkelig Kraft from Agder brings together a large part of the county’s vibrant folk music community for a collaboration with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. The concert, which features nearly 50 performers from various folk music genres, appears to be a hit with audiences in Southern Norway. A week before the event, 600 people had already secured tickets for the big night.

Pride and Expectation

KSO Director Pål Svendsberget considers it important—but also entirely natural—for the orchestra to engage with folk culture in this way.

“All music builds upon, branches out from, or is the beginning of something. Folk music and all the innovative work taking place within it, combined with a symphony orchestra, is the most natural thing in the world to us. It is with pride and anticipation that we look forward to presenting this concert,” says Svendsberget.
