Musikksalongen #18 – Fra fele og banjo til polert Nashville-country
Each installment of the Music Salon features a lecture on music history as part of the Kultur/Retur series, presented by Sigbjørn Nedland, but opens with a conversation about music between Kjetil Nordhus and a special guest.
We continue the history of country music from the point where it first begins to appear in records of folk music from the Appalachian Mountains and other rural areas. We’ll see how the music spread through the media, and how it migrated from the countryside to the big cities, where it incorporated everything from electric guitars to drums and steel guitar. Everything from polished “slick” country from Nashville to Outlaw Country from Texas, Western Swing, and much more—right up to today’s commercial country music, and the more authentic and original tradition that still lives on.
Straight from Nashville—to talk about life as a musician in the mecca of country music—Erlend Gunstveit visits Musikksalongen. With a victory on The Voice under his belt, the Grimstad native moved to the U.S. in 2023 and hasn’t looked back since.
