Conductor: Per Kristian Skalstad
Soloist and conductor: Julian Rachlin, violin
Program:
Richard Wagner: Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde (1859)
Alban Berg: Violin Concerto – In Memory of an Angel (1935)
Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 3 in F major, Op. 90 (1883)
This evening, we will be joined by our own principal conductor, Julian Rachlin, both as conductor and soloist in Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto—an intimate and moving work that blends modernist hues with human warmth.
When Rachlin sets aside his baton to perform, Per Kristian Skalstad takes over the baton.
Skalstad also conducts Wagner’s Liebestod, one of the most iconic highlights of Romantic opera.
After that, Rachlin returns to conduct Brahms’ Symphony No. 3, a work that combines broad power,
lyrical elegance, and the mature calm that characterizes Brahms at his most personal.
