This year, we’re keeping it simple:
A sort of Christmas concert with Tønes and Ingvar Hovland
For 20 years, Frank “Tønes” Tønnesen and Ingvar Hovland have been putting on Christmas shows. Together, they’ve delved into the true challenges of Christmas celebrations: where should you be on Christmas Eve, who gives gifts to whom, what actually constitutes an approved Christmas tree, and is it really okay to decorate it in November?
The answer to the last question is, of course, a resounding chorus of angels singing “no.” The rest is knowledge Tønes and Hovland have gathered over the years and now compiled into a new concert performance, where they get help from Sigfrida and Johanne, among others.
“I år gjør me det helt enkelt” is a Christmas song for those of you who perhaps don’t think Christmas should be about singing and concerts at all. About gift-giving, cold floors, and whether the celebration will be at Aunt Ingeborg’s or Aunt Gerd’s. And one about how the brightest star still gives hope.
Ingvar Hovland is Egersund’s national poet and has written lyrics for a number of Norwegian artists and bands.
Frank Tønnesen has a unique ability to observe and convey everyday life with a blend of subtle humor and understated seriousness. Quite a few people call him Tønes.
