A performance about Inger Hagerup
By and starring Kristi Kinsarvik
Inger Hagerup is one of our most beloved poets. She wrote about life—as a child and as an adult—in a way that makes us recognize ourselves. She wanted to “tell it like it is,” without beating around the bush.
In this performance, Kristi Kinsarvik has set 14 of Hagerup’s poems to music. She reads, sings, and narrates, taking the audience on a journey through Inger Hagerup’s life and work.
We follow her from her childhood in Bergen—a childhood that was abruptly changed when her father died. We hear about the summers spent with her grandfather, which became the gateway to the great mystery of nature. We then follow Inger Hagerup through her life and take a closer look at her roles as a woman, mother, and author—roles that were not always easy to balance.
Kristi Kinsarvik uses quotes from Inger Hagerup’s autobiography, as well as from Klaus Hagerup’s biography of his mother.
Ole Henrik Giørtz accompanies on the grand piano. He is known as a composer, arranger, and pianist, notably from Chipahua and his collaboration with Lars Saabye Christensen.
