Following rave reviews in newspapers such as Die Welt and The New York Times —and sold-out performances in London, Berlin, and New York—Susie Wang is finally returning to Kristiansand. The last time they performed at Kilden in 2020 with Licht und Liebe, later performed at the National Theater and in Germany. In collaboration with Kilden , they Kilden now create a brand-new production with its world premiere in the fall of 2026.
Susie Wang is a theater group based in Oslo, consisting of Trine Falch, Bo Krister Wallstrøm, Martin Langlie, and Mona Solhaug. Falch and Wallstrøm have backgrounds in the performance collective Baktruppen, which helped turn European theater on its head in the 1990s. As part of what later came to be known as post-dramatic theater, they created performances without fiction or characters, and sought to blur the boundaries between theater and reality.
Eventually, they became curious about the theatrical realityreality. Could it be resurrected? Could fiction in the theater work again?
Like Susie Wang, they began picking up the pieces of the old theater they themselves had helped tear down, and building a new one. The result is a completely original theatrical language that blends new and old, expensive and cheap tricks to lure the audience into their fiction—a universe where the natural, unnatural, and supernatural interact in a beautiful (and ugly) union.
“Take a happy place and take the happiness out of it” is the basic formula, and through simple, almost banal plots, they explore existential questions with great artistic flair. The story often begins in familiar surroundings, frequently on vacation. Gradually, something unknown creeps in, and the pleasant turns eerie. Perhaps the scariest thing is that the unknown doesn’t come from outside, but is something we carry within ourselves—something repressed that rises to the surface.
But don’t worry—with Susie Wang, humanity’s darkest and most grotesque aspects are transformed into intelligent and relentlessly entertaining theater.
