A musical code: 478 and 47
Behind these two catalog numbers lies an unbroken thread of passion and gravity. In 1785, Mozart broke new ground with K. 478, the Piano Quartet in G minor. The work shook the contemporary world with an uncompromising and dark seriousness that refused to serve as pleasant background music for the nobility. He had invented an entirely new genre.

57 years later, Schumann revisited the same formula in his Op. 47, the Piano Quartet in E-flat major. He took Mozart’s innovation and filled the framework with an explosive, romantic passion—written in a feverish rush of pure creative drive. When the musicians bring the numbers to life, time and space cease to exist; there is only the raw nerve of two numbers charged with gravity and passion.
